Stuck on a rack of letters?
A word unscrambler takes a jumble of letters and finds every valid word hiding inside them. Whether you're staring at a tricky Scrabble rack, trying to beat a friend at Words with Friends, solving an anagram puzzle or filling in a crossword, this tool does the hard part instantly — and shows you the highest-scoring plays first.
How to use it
- Type your letters into the box. Add a
?for each blank or wildcard tile. - Press Unscramble (or hit Enter). Results are grouped by length, longest words first.
- Narrow it down with the advanced filters — start letter, end letter, contained letters or exact length.
How scoring works
Each word shows its standard Scrabble point value, so you can spot the most valuable plays at a glance. Remember that bonus squares on your board and blank tiles (worth zero points) will change the final score in an actual game.
Tips for higher scores
- Lead with longer words — they usually score more and clear your rack.
- Learn the short words — two- and three-letter words are gold for tight boards.
- Use the filters to fit a specific spot, e.g. words ending in a letter already on the board.
- Hunt high-value tiles — placing Q, Z, J or X on a bonus square is a game-changer.
Frequently asked questions
How does the word unscrambler work?
Type in the letters you have and press Unscramble. The tool checks every letter combination against a 170,000-word dictionary and lists all the valid words you can spell, grouped from longest to shortest with their Scrabble point values.
Can I use blank tiles or wildcards?
Yes. Use a question mark (?) for each blank or unknown tile. A wildcard can stand in for any single letter, so “c?t” style inputs and Scrabble blanks both work.
Can I filter the results?
Yes. Use the advanced filters to show only words of a certain length, or words that start with, end with, or contain specific letters — handy when you're solving a crossword or a specific board position.
Which dictionary does it use?
It uses the ENABLE word list, the open dictionary behind most word games — the same family of words accepted in Scrabble and Words with Friends. Every word returned is a real, playable word.
Are my letters private?
Completely. The dictionary loads into your browser once, and every search runs locally on your device. Your letters are never sent to a server, logged or stored.
