How to calculate a tip

A tip is a percentage of the bill given for good service. To calculate it, multiply the bill by the tip percentage and divide by 100. For a $60 bill at 18%, that's 60 × 18 ÷ 100 = $10.80, making the total $70.80. To split it, divide the total by the number of people.

Tipping guide

  • Restaurants (table service): 15–20%.
  • Bartenders: ~$1–2 per drink or 15–20%.
  • Food delivery: 10–15%, more in bad weather.
  • Taxi / rideshare: 10–15%.
  • Hairdressers: 15–20%.

Customs vary by country — in many places a service charge is already included and extra tipping isn't expected.
