Frequently asked questions

How do I convert a test score to a percentage?

Divide your score by the total possible marks and multiply by 100. Enter your score and the total in the middle row of the calculator above.

How do I average percentages across several tests?

If the tests carry equal weight, average the percentages. If not, add all marks scored and divide by all marks available — a 90% on a small quiz shouldn't outweigh an 80% on a big exam.

How many marks do I need for a target percentage?

Multiply the total marks by the target percent as a decimal. To hit 75% on an 80-mark paper you need 80 × 0.75 = 60 marks.
