How discounts work
A percentage discount reduces the price by that share. A 25% discount on a $100 item removes $25, leaving $75. The amount you save is the difference between the original and final price.
Stacking discounts
When a store offers "an extra 10% off sale prices," the discounts stack sequentially rather than adding up. The second discount applies to the already-reduced price, so 20% plus an extra 10% works out to 28% off in total — not 30%. The effective-discount figure shows the combined result.

How do I calculate a discount?

How do I stack two discounts?
